Earlier on today, the Champions League First Qualifying Round draw was made, in which Dundalk were the sole LOI representative. Dundalk were drawn out of the bowl to face FC Riga of Latvia. With a number of potential banana skins in the draw, Dundalk will likely fancy their chances of advancing to the Second Qualifying Round. The tie will be played over two legs on the 9/10th and 16/17th of July.

Twenty-eight years later, a United side – featuring Eamonn Deacy would host a UEFA Cup tie against Dutch side Groningen on a public pitch in An Cheathrú Rua (which was primarily used for GAA).
